As I mention almost everyday on my instagram, I am sick and tired of the cold! And the past week has been dreary, rainy and windy, with just seconds of sunlight here and there. So to get me out of the dark wintery rainy funk, I took time preparing breakfast. The more colorful, the better.
One night, G and I with our friend R popped into one of the most popular bars in Stuttgart, Paul & George, where I had a ginger ale and the boys had gin tonics. Paul & George (ein interview aber nur in Deutsch) is the non-smoking version of my favorite cocktail place Schwarz Weiss Bar, and I still think the latter does cocktails so much better. But can’t stand the smoking so this will have to do for the time being. (WHY, Stuttgart? What’s with the smoking bars and cafes?)
Another favorite from last week was Cafe Kaiserbau which is located in Marienplatz. It’s a cafe, bar, restaurant, gelateria, all in one. (The Kaiserbau Gelateria has the best gelato in Stuttgart in my opinion.) The great thing about the Kaiserbau cafe is that you can order and eat the pizza from next door, La Signorina, which is almost always so full, loud and busy. As an Italian, G doesn’t like to play with the ingredients when it comes to pizza toppings yet La Signorina is very experimental: beets, mashed up carrots, figs, Hokkaido pumpkin, etc. But the good news is that you can order a pizza with whatever topping you want: we usually go for the buffala (or buffalo mozzarella), salami, and/or mushrooms. And it turns out, the Cafe Kaiserbau has excellent cheesecakes too! A win-win.
As usual, a rainy but fun week packed with food, coffee and pizza. Happy Friday and weekend!
비가 오는건 익숙해지긴 했지만 여전히 싫고. 3월이 되었는데 여전히 겨울처럼 추운 스튜트가르트 날씨. 그래서 이번주는 우울한 날씨를 이겨내기 위해 아침에 특히나 더 신경썼던 한 주. 스콘도 만들고 색색깔의 과일도 섞어서 먹고 등등. 저녁에는 남은 칠리 콘 카르네를 처리하기 위해 즉흥적으로 피자도 만들어 먹었는데 생각보다 맛있어서 역시 피자는 어떻게 만들어도 맛있구나라는 결론.
스튜트가르트를 대표하는 칵테일바 Paul & George (내가 1등으로 치는 Schwarz Weiss Bar는 담배를 너무 펴대서 패스), 뚱뚱한 치즈 케익와 피자를 먹으러 Cafe Kaiserbau와 La Signorina 도 방문! 실험적인 피자토핑에 질색하는 누구와는 달리 개인적으로 단호박이 올라간 피자는 궁금했지만 용기가 부족해 결국 부팔라 모짜렐라와 살라미가 올라간 피자 선택. 역시나 먹을거리로 시작하고 끝난 한 주였다. 드디어 주말 고고!
