Paris: The artists

January 28, 2013 by rachelsanghee

It’s amazing how they all memorized what they were sketching. But no, I didn’t buy one.

I’m never the shopper type when it comes to traveling. I sometimes buy souvenirs for close friends and family members, but I almost never buy souvenirs for myself. One reason is because I just cannot make up my mind on what to buy and another is I don’t know where to put them when I get back home. And, like the painting, I have a feeling souvenirs actually look better at the actual location than on my nightstand.

There’s a reason why there are so many artists in Montmartre. It was in the mid-19th century when artists such as Camille Pissarro first came to live in the area. Near the end of the century, it finally became the haven of such artists, and these artists also started their own associations like Les Nabis and the Incoherents. Some famous artists who either lived or stayed in Montmartre for inspirations include: Vincent van Gogh, Gen Paul, Jacques Villon, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas and Pablo Picasso.
