Stuttgart: Wedding at the zoo

July 7, 2014 by rachelsanghee

No penguins involved, but it was romantic and special all the same. dirk1The Wilhelma is the biggest and only zoological botanical garden in Europe and I did not know you could also have weddings here. Such a beautiful place to get married. No animals directly involved in the ceremony, but it was a special moment to walk pass the flamingos and polar bears to reach the final ceremony hall. Lucky D and M!

The Damascene Hall, which was where the ceremony was held, was built in 1864 and is the only building to have survived the war completely intact. Despite the perfect condition, it did go through some renovations in 1992 but the beautiful paintings across the ceiling, the marble of the walls and the very fancy chandelier dates back to the original times.

It was spritzing a bit so my hair got all flattened out. Rain and hair, bad.

It didn’t rain a lot but there were dark clouds everywhere, making it a bit tricky to take photos. But thankfully, no heavy rain, no hair and dress disasters.

dirk12dirk13The cake that probably made it to everyone’s phone photo roll.

The table setting was like the bride’s beautiful dress: black and white, with a hint of pink and soft beige.

The party started out with drinks, from beer, prosecco, espresso to non-alcoholic beers (which taste exactly like real beer), and some finger food. And some catching up with friends and colleagues and meeting new friends.

According to our German friend K, it’s tradition to give a gift that somehow symbolizes your friendship to the bride or groom. Since the married couple is moving to Japan, there were a lot of gifts that included Japanese culture: the Japanese umbrella, origami and cards.

Congratulations to the beautiful couple, D and M.
