Capri: Into the blue

Jump into the blue. Because you can. And should. Some tips and tricks on your summer holiday to Capri. 

The trip to the Capri starts from Sorrento. Capri is an island on the south side of the Gulf of Naples and has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. So for a very long time, it’s been known as a summer, hot, beachy paradise. There are a couple of interesting features, not that you really need any: the town of Anacapri, the Blue Grotto, the overall coastline and the picturesque areas that are dotted with very expensive villas and summer houses owned by the 60 percent of Italian designers.

카프리섬으로의 여행은 쏘렌토에서부터 시작된다. 쏘렌토 자체가 굉장히 관광지스러운 면이 있지만 이탈리아의 여름은 늘상 이렇다는 것. 쏘렌토에서 카프리섬행 표를 사고 기다리다보면 미니 크루즈배를 타라고 하는데 처음에는 창가에 앉는다고 서로 경쟁하다가 나중에는 그냥 포기. 크루즈가 워낙 작기도 하고 섬까지 가는 시간이 1시간정도 되기 때문에 일찍 일어난 우리 여행객들은 결국 잠에 들고 마는 것.

이렇게 여름스러운 곳이라니. 겨울 이탈리아 여행은 말이 안된다는 것을 증명해주는 광경들.

You can easily get a ride on a boat with other travelers, and if you are lucky you can also head down to the Blue Grotto. It takes a bit of luck because winds and waves can change the entire schedule. We were not that lucky so we had to skip the Blue Grotto, but many boat companies also offer another shot even after your tour is done. Make sure you check with the company about the schedules, ticket prices and itinerary.

크루즈에서 내리자마자 여행객들을 유혹하는 잘생긴 아저씨들과 청년들. 카프리섬에 왔다면 꼭 한번은 타봐야하는 보트 투어들을 홍보하는 사람들인데 비교하다보면 가격도, 여행 일정도 비슷. 잘생긴 아저씨 골라서 선택해도 될 정도. 가장 중요한 정보는 블루 그로토라고 불리는 바다 동굴. 세계에서 가장 아름다운 바다 동굴이라고 알려져 있는 곳인데 바다의 상태와 날씨에 따라 입장 여부가 갈리는 꽤 까다로운 곳. 동굴 통로의 천장이 너무 낮아 보트에 탄 모든 사람들이 배에 누워서 벽에 고정된 밧줄을 붙잡고 배를 끌고 가야할 정도. 우리는 안타깝게도 바람과 파도가 너무 심해서 들어가지 못함. (대부분의 보트 투어들은 표를 산 여행객들에게 동굴에 들어갈 수 있는 찬스를 한두번씩 더 주기도 하는데 이건 표를 구입하기 전에 확인해봐야한다.)

카프리섬 주변의 다양한 빌라들과 호텔들. 투어 중에 선장이 마이크로 어느 빌라가 누구것인지 알려주는데 아르마니, 돌체 앤 가바나, 소피아 로렌 등이 여름을 여기서 보낸다고. 부럽기도 하고 말그대로 그사세 느낌.  (윗사진에는 교황을 닮은 작은 조각상이 있다는 사실!)

The Faraglioni are limestone cliffs and stones that are located in the middle of the sea and they are gorgeous. So gorgeous they make up as the backdrops of very famous, summery, sultry advertisements, including Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue.

파라리오니 바위라고 불리는 카프리섬을 대표하는 바위. 수많은 브랜드의 여름 캠페인 광고의 배경이 되기도 하는 곳. 대부분의 보트들은 구멍안으로 들어가기도 하는데 구멍을 지나가는 중에 사랑하는 사람과 키스를 하면 사랑이 이루어진다는 전설이 있다. 외국인들뿐 아니라 이탈리아인들도 저 바위를 보자마자 다들 들뜨기 시작, 갑자기 일어나서 사진을 찍기 시작. 카프리는 이탈리아인들에게도 특별한 휴양지. 이번에는 푸른 바다 위주로 썼으니 다음번 카프리에는 카프리 섬 자체에 집중할 계획!

디트로이트, 우리가 사는 동네에도 강이 많아서 보트를 소유하고 있는 사람들이 많은데 이탈리아도 마찬가지. 쓸 돈이 있다면 보트를 대여, 하루종일 보트타고 이곳저곳을 구경하고 중간에 서서 수영도 하고 점프도 해볼 것을 추천. 많은 이탈리아인들도 친구들이나 가족까리 뭉쳐서 함께 보트를 대여, 시간을 보내는 경우가 많다고 하니 카프리를 제대로 즐기고 싶다면 보트 대여 고고!

 

• Sunscreen. Italians don’t tend to wear too much because the darker the better, but always sunscreen.
• If you want, you can also go on the excursion boat tours where they take you to a number of beaches and you can get off to enjoy the waters and then hop back on. We tried this in Olbia and it was amazing. We skipped at Capri because we just wanted a simple tour around the island.
• Eat as much lemon-anything as possible.
