Where do you shop for furniture?

So the date for our move is finally out (mid-December, so anyone who wants to have a homemade dinner at our place after helping us move, just let me know…) and the hunt for some decent furniture is on. Still on. It’s been on for a while. Back when we first came to Germany, we had about a month to find a place and decide if we were going to move in, all the while living at hotels, and everything was rushed. When we moved in in our first place, it was a bit of a sudden decision: we were so sick and tired of living in hotels. We bought furniture mostly at IKEA and it worked. When we moved to our current place, we brought over most of the things and also bought some furniture that was already here from the previous renter. And this also worked. Now that we are moving again, plus with a baby, we’re searching for better furniture, a wee bit better than IKEA.

이사할 날짜가 나오고나니 이제 슬슬 가구를 둘러보고 알아봐야할 때. 처음 독일에 왔을때 집을 구하는게 딱 한달이 주어졌었다. 그동안에는 호텔에 살아야했는데 처음엔 재밌고 청소아줌마랑 친해지고 해서 괜찮았는데 한달이 거의 다 되고 나니 집밥도 먹고 싶고 지겨워지기 시작. 그래서 급한 마음에 괜찮다고 생각하는 집으로 이사했는데 역시나 급한 마음에 가구들도 별로 생각없이 다 화이트와 블랙으로 통일, 대부분 IKEA로 통일. 지금 살고 있는 집에 이사올때도 대부분의 가구들을 가지고 들어왔는데 5년정도 지나니 역시나 IKEA제품들은 점점 망가지거나 부러지기 시작. 이번에 이사가는 집에는 조금 더 신중하게 가구를 고르고 구입해볼 생각인데 이게 생각처럼 쉽지 않다. 이래서 인테리어 전문가를 고용하는건가 싶기도 하고. 따로 따로 예쁜 가구를 봐도 이게 다 같이 조화를 이룰거라는 보장도 없고, 사진을 아무리 찾아봐도 집 구조가 다르니 잘 맞을지도 모르겠고. 에헤라디야.

Offline choices mostly have been Habitat, Bolia.com, BoConcept Stuttgart and most recently even Sostrene Grene. Online ones have been mostly Made.com (love their chairs) and MONOQI but I’m still searching here and there.

When I told A’s Kita that we are moving soon, the teacher told me to tell her and the other teachers once we actually move in and start sleeping and living at the new place. I wasn’t sure why, but she explained that kids can also get stressed during the moving process and that new environments do not work well with a lot of kids. This completely made sense. We’ve traveled quite a bit with A, and although she’s been quite good when it comes to sleeping on different beds and rooms, the first day or two were always a bit difficult. Let me know if this happens with any of your kids, and if you have any ideas on how to soothe the process.

곧 이사를 간다고 하니 유치원 선생님이 새집에 생활하고 자기 시작하면 꼭 알려달라고 당부했다. 처음엔 왜지?그랬는데 아이들이 이사를 하면 나름 스트레스 받아서 유치원에서도 행동이 달라지기도 하고 신경질을 내기도 한다고. 듣고보니 그럴듯한 이유. 사실 아기 데리고 여행을 꽤 다닌편이어서 특별히 걱정은 안했는데 생각해보니 여행을 가고 나면 처음 하루 이틀은 잠투정도 심하고 짜증도 냈던것 같다. 이런 경험이 있는 분은 어떻게 극복하셨는지 알려주세용.
