Giovinazzo: Nonna and I

Quality time with Nonna.It’s always such a treat to visit grandparents. G’s father has Alzheimer’s so it’s not always happy and cheerful around the house, but having little A running around singing and dancing helps a lot.

날씨 좋은 이탈리아. 독일은 여전히 추웠지만 남부 이탈리아는 따뜻했다. 얼마전 외할머니가 돌아가셔서 이제는 살아계신 조부모가 없는 나는 부쩍이나 A의 할머니, 할아버지가 감사하다. 다른 친구들처럼 가까이 살진 못하지만 되도록이면 자주 가려고 노력하는 중. 특히 G의 아버지는 오래전부터 알츠하이머를 앓고 계셔서 꼬맹이가 뛰어다니며 노래부르고 춤추는 모습이 꼭 필요한 시간.

This time around A managed to learn a lot of Italian, which makes G and Nonna very happy. She’s been mixing languages quite a bit these days and although we all think it’s cute, I’m waiting for the moment it will become too much. Hoping that time won’t come too soon. For now, she’s having so much fun like “Lecker, bueno!” “Hallo, Ciao.” She also says “Danke, bitte” together all at once. I think she thinks it’s a set because that’s what she hears.

She also had so much fun with Nonna, chasing each other, jumping over things and even making pasta.

대화를 나누려고 꽤나 애쓰는데 이번 이탈리아 방문에서는 이탈리아어를 많이 배워왔다. 음식, 마시고 먹는 것과 관련된 단어들을 특히나 많이 배워 옴. 독일어와 이탈리아, 혹은 독일어와 영어를 한꺼번에 연결해서 말하는 경우도 많다. 예를 들어 “맛있다 (독일어), 맛있다 (이탈리아어) 혹은 세트로 한꺼번에 “당케 (감사합니다), 비테 (천만에요).” 뭔가 고쳐주기도 그렇고 안고쳐주기도 그런 상황. 지금은 그냥 냅두고 있다.

She’s also very into dresses, I think it started when she first watched Sleeping Beauty and the moment where she sings the song “I know you I walked with you once upon a dream…” in the woods. Whenever she sees that scene or any other scene with a girl dressed in a gown, she starts singing that song. Such a girly girl.

천상 여자. 치마를 너무 좋아해서 뭐 하기만하면 치마, 치마, 치마. 디즈니의 잠자는 숲속의 공주를 보고 춤을 추는 부분에서 크게 감동을 받았는지 치마만 보면 그 노래를 부르고 따라하는 요즘.

And we also had some amazing Italian food, obviously.

이탈리아에 왔으니 당연히 이탈리아 음식 고고.

While we were in Giovinazzo, we paid a visit to a small town called Trani where I had the best shrimp of my life. The restaurant is called Corte in Fiore and it’s wonderful. We took a couple of courses and had to skip dessert for that, but it was one amazing meal. I hear the dessert course is also amazing so maybe next time. It looks pretty small and ordinary from the outside but once you walk in… gasp.
