Stuttgart: Wedding shoot

A special day for the three of us.

When G and I had our wedding, we wanted it to basically be a big party than a wedding. And it was. We had less than 50 guests, the food was quite simple, there was a lot of dancing and singing and yet we didn’t have anyone marrying us because we already had that taken care of the previous year. There were colleagues, friends, family and some I’ve never met, but it was all good. We were more than grateful to have people come to enjoy our day.

처음부터 끝까지 모든 웨딩 계획을 직접 발로 뛰어서 해야했던 2013년의 웨딩. 너무 정신이 없던터라 스튜디오 촬영은 무슨, 어떻게 지나갔는지도 몰랐는데 작년 여름, 운이 좋게도 웨딩 촬영을 할 기회가 생겼다.

2013년 우리의 야외 웨딩은 그야말로 국제적이었다. 드레스는 미국에서 날라와 서울에서 맞추고, 양복도 서울에서, 청첩장도 서울, 음식은 독일인들이 만든 이탈리아 음식, 디제이는 이탈리아인, 사진작가는 독일인, 웨딩장소는 독일, 하객들은 독일인부터 터키, 이탈리아인, 한국인, 스페인인. 하객들이 다 뿔뿔히 흩어져 있고 가족들은 특히나 우리가 신경을 안 쓸수가 없었기에 하나부터 열까지 다 챙기고 잊어버리면 안되었던 상황.

메이크업과 머리도 그냥 내가 15분 정도 휙휙. 뭔가 일반적인 웨딩날 아침 메이크업 받으러 가서 차분히 앉아서 커피도 마시고 화장도 하고 머리도 받고 이걸 못해서 억울했는데 이번 웨딩 촬영을 통해 소원 성취.

And because we were both not from Germany, we pretty much had to do all the research ourselves. (No, we didn’t even consider hiring a wedding planner…) My dress was flown in from the U.S., G’s suit was from Seoul, our wedding invitations were also from Seoul, the food was Italian by Germans, I did my own makeup and hair in like 15 minutes, we were satisfied with the flower arrangements Sonnenhof offered and we found our photographer and DJ online. So it was all done in a bit of a rush, and I’ve always felt it would have been nice to have spent more time for photos.

And then I got an email from Vivamor last year, asking if we were interested to do a wedding photo shoot. WHAT.

So last summer, we traveled to Das Roehm, a leather factory and event venue, in Schorndorf and got prepped up for a wedding shoot. It was such a great experience and I now have the utmost respect for models. There is absolutely nothing easy about the profession. I’ll share all the details, companies and people involved in the photoshoot below, just in case anyone is interested. It was such an incredible experience and I have to thank everyone involved, including the Wedding Pilots, who were the ones who connected us with the whole team from the start.

작년 여름, 너무 덥지도 뜨겁지도 않은 날, 우리는 가죽 공장 겸 이벤트 공간으로 쓰여진다는 Das Roehm 이라는 곳으로 출동. 가서 메이크업도 받고 머리도 하고 드레스도 입고. 우리 웨딩때는 나한테 맞는, 클래식한 드레스였는데 이번은 내가 선택한게 아니라서 적어도 나한테는 파격적인 드레스! 그리고 모델일이 힘들다는 것은 누구나 알고 있겠지만 이렇게 어려운 일인줄은… 정말 기다림의 연속이었다. 패션쇼의 백스테이지를 보면 모델들이 다 음악 듣고 있거나 책을 보고 있거나 다들 지루한 표정으로 기다리고 있는 사진들을 볼 수 있는데 다 이유가 있던 것.

특별히 이번 촬영은 우리가 주인공이 아니라 드레스, 메이크업, 정장, 케익 등등이 주인공이라 얘네를 돋보이게 하느라 다들 고생. 하지만 이런 기회라니! 독일 스튜트가르트 근처에서 결혼할 계획이 있으신 분들을 위해 구체적인 사항들은 아래에 적어놨으니 참고하세요.

This was a special moment. As I mentioned, I did my own makeup and hair, which was really nothing basically, and so it was such a treat. The overall concept of the shoot was intercultural couples, so it was me being as Asian as possible and G being, well, as European as possible.

이번 촬영의 주제는 국제커플. 그래서 나는 최대한 아시안으로, G는 최대한 유러피안…으로 돋보이게 하는 것이 목적. 그래서 나의 화장과 헤어는 살짝 촌스러웠…다.

The little one also got a couple of dresses to try out.

The decorations were heavily inspired by Asian elements, from the warm and golden tones, orchids and finger food. Our personal wedding was quite modern, so it was very interesting and inspiring to see how they incorporated the Asian flair to the tables and food.
