Stuttgart, here and there.
Citizen Long

If you live in Stuttgart and like to go out (or like instagram), you may have heard of the new pan-Asian restaurant called Citizen Long. It was created by the same people behind Breitengrad 17, and it’s very cool. The venue itself is super posh, with a big, open kitchen and bar, very industrial with a hint of Asian, and friendly staff.

And the food. The food was delicious and very special; it’s hard to do pan-Asian anything because it’s a little bit of everything, but they’ve managed to bring hints of Asia here and there, without over/underwhelming anything. We tried the brunch which is served during the weekends, but was not so much impressed like the normal lunch/dinner. I have to say it’s not the best place to go with an empty stomach because it can get a bit pricy, but for a special occasion or to try out new food, fantastic.
Colvino
I think we end up in Colvino almost every week. We most recently had G’s birthday party here and although it was great fun, we do feel that the place hiked up their prices quite a bit and it’s (already) losing a bit of Italian hospitality. It’s a business, not a charity, yes I know, but I sometimes feel a bit torn. If they do continually increase their prices, I would rather just have a nice bottle or two at home. But that’s us, and regardless of my personal feelings, it’s a nice place where you can eat good food, drink nice wine and enjoy the ambience. They also serve lunch now and host wine tastings and live band events.
Il Pomodoro Pizzeria
Once upon a time there was a pizzeria called Il Pomodoro on Wilhelmsplatz. This was before La Signorina, which is still one of my favs for good pizza. We became friends with one of the owners and we were happy. The pizzas and pastas were really good and affordable. One sad day, management changed and we had one too many bad experiences with both the management and the food, so we sadly had to move on. We never exactly knew what happened to the friendly owners but we were heartbroken. Then a few months ago we found out that the sister of the owner we were friends with was actually running a pizzeria under the same name, Il Pomodoro. I believe there are currently three Il Pomodoros in Stuttgart, this one is at Filderstrasse 25. “Back to the roots,” our friend called it. It’s good, friendly, always packed and comfortable enough to go casually but can still make it a romantic evening if you’d like.
Facelift on Königstrasse
Königstrasse is going through an uplift yet again, with some shops closing for good while others welcoming new ones. Furniture shop Habitat is closing, along with Saks Off 5th Avenue, which launched not too long ago. I believe the smaller Tritschler on the street is also closing as well. The Depot at the end of Königstrasse is also wrapping up business, but not to worry since a brand new one recently opened not so far away. Online shopping site Zalando is opening an outlet-style shop where kids’ store Jakoo used to be. Some buildings on the famous shopping street are going through heavy renovations while others are just straight up brought down. Exciting times.
New eats

Burger places are all over the place. Burgerheart opened not too long ago, while burger fans (like myself) are waiting for Five Guys to drop. Very little information about Five Guys, but I have to say, I’m pretty excited about this one. (The photo is of one of my favs in town from Burger Republic. Classic, nothing fussy, fancy, just a plain, good burger.) There’s also a new salad, cafe, juice place called Yuícery and it looks really nice; the food, the juices, their gelato and the interior! If you’re heading to Wilhelma, there’s also a new salad bar/restaurant called Restaurant Amazonica. Restaurants in such places tend to be super pricy, a bit boring and quite often not that satisfying, but from the photos, this place looks fun, fresh and super chic. Popular beer brand Rothaus also opened its new brewery in Das Gerber. It looks amazing and very spacious and modern, and it will be open until 10 p.m. so that’s a great start.
Jazzopen

Jazzopen is one of the biggest summer fesitvals in Stuttgart and it’s all about enjoying the warm weather, with nice drinks and food and listening to top jazz musicians at Schlossplatz. It’s quite an experience but it’s great even if you don’t have tickets. The overall atmosphere is quite casual and this year, Bob Dylan, Christina Aguilera and Sting will be gracing the stage of the famous castle of Stuttgart. For more info and tickets, visit here.

The new restaurant at Wilhelma is great. It belongs to Mövenpick (maybe you know their iecream) and this is always an indicator for good quality. It is a buffet style restaurant, not cheap but also not super pricy. We were there last week and loved it. 😊
Yes! I saw the website. It’s such a big company, even with hotels, right? Love that it’s vegetarian, something new. I need to try it asap! Are you going to write about it? If you do, I can’t wait to read all about it!
