Stuttgart Trending 7

October 2, 2019 by rachelsanghee

October is turning into a very eventful month.

Kunst & Designmarkt

Another lifestyle event happening in October: Kunst & Designmarkt. A bit different from Made in Stuggi but similar in that it offers visitors the chance to meet new exhibitors in various fields, including arts and crafts, photography, fashion, jewelry, art, graphic design and more.

This event stands out because of their numbers; more than 120 exhibitors from Austria and Germany will be sharing their work and it runs in different cities as well, including Linz, Salzburg, Passau and Munich.

Runs through Oct. 18 to 19 at Im Wizemann. Tickets cost 5 euros. For more info, visit here.

My Thoughts on these fairs

A little bit of perspective, if I may.

At the moment, lifestyle events seem to be a thing in Stuttgart and also Germany, with interesting events like Blickfang, Tisch & Tafel, Speis & Trank, Made in Stuggi, and Kunst & Designmarkt popping up. (I’m sure I’m missing some, but for now these are the ones that stand out) I’ve been to the first three and the latter two I’m hoping to make it this time.

Blickfang is the biggest, which also means there’s a lot more to see, so takes more time and effort. They also offer bigger products and brands, like actual kitchens, big furniture etc and it’s more like getting to know and discovering the brands, rather than casually purchasing the individual product. And like many events here, stalls tend to be the same, so personally, I didn’t see the need of visiting every year unless you want to learn more about the brands and their upcoming work.

Tisch & Tafel and Speis & Trank are run by the same company so it does have a similar vibe. The former is more about interior, design and art, while the latter is more about food and drinks. Both are quite easy going, casual and entertaining. They have various activities, shows and workshops sprinkled throughout the event, so that’s a plus too. Sometimes I do find it a bit awkward when I have to ask some of the booths if I can try out something, for example food, but this seems to have gotten better over the years. All in all, very entertaining and something I do look forward to every year.

Have you been to any of these fairs/events? Thoughts?

Keeping Königstrasse safe

If you’ve been walking along Königstrasse the past few weeks, you may have noticed some construction going on around the Commerzbank near Schlossplatz and in front of the bookstore Wittwer. These, ladies and gentlemen, are concrete posts that will hopefully protect the very crowded street from any questionable or possibly dangerous attacks by vehicles. Considering the various events happening around the famous street, these seem to make very much sense.

Stuttgart has introduced such protections on Bolzstrasse in the past and now have gone further to Königstrasse, which I think is necessary. I also think/hope these would perhaps help slow down the staggering number of e-scooters around town.

Korean Night

This seems like an advertisement, but I swear, this post isn’t sponsored. Just here to share interesting info. And this to me was interesting. So Kala Club in Theodor Heuss Strasse is having a Korean night with Korean drinks, K-Pop, K-hiphop and more. I found this really interesting because I haven’t heard much events related to anything K-pop around the city, although I do think the manager at H&M in Milaneo is a K-pop fan because I hear K-pop every time I go. The event is run by JIN Entertainment and if you’re interested, go check their instagram because they hold these K-pop events all around Germany. Or their facebook. The event takes place on Oct. 19.

Violent incidents in the city

I’ve always trusted Stuttgart to be a relatively safe place, but it seems we all need to be careful wherever we are. Two weeks ago in Stuttgart, a man got into a fight and was stabbed and critically injured. The first question that came into my mind was “Why were these people carrying a knife?” The incident happened behind the New Castle near Schlossgarten, a popular spot among the younger crowd who are looking for some fun and drinks, especially at night and weekends. It’s a bit of a dark, dodgy place and yes, there tends to be a lot of drunk youngsters grouping around.

Police were dispatched, obviously, and there apparently was a commotion even after the authorities’ arrival. According to the police, the group was mostly consisted of immigrants but Germans were also present. Not sure if this information was all that important, since the nationalities shouldn’t matter so much, unless they were here illegally. The suspects were taken into custody.

Stuttgartnacht 2019

More than 60 events, concerts, shows and guided tours will be held Oct. 19 under the name Stuttgartnacht 2019, which is run by LIFT-Das Stuttgartmagazin. The website is mostly in German, but they have a FAQ in English, which is helpful.

For starters, the tickets cost 18 euros but there’s a new Studi-tickets aimed at students for 14 euros. The tickets include the entry of all events and also as a VVS combined ticket, which is very handy. Here’s an overview of the participating venues, such as Cafe Raupe Immersatt, Stadtpalais, the TV tower, Krauftpaule and Rathaus. The events will be running from 7 p.m. through midnight, with a number of them opening until 2 a.m. You can find these late night events under the tag “Spatschicht” on their website.
