Stuttgart: Hans Im Glück

February 14, 2015 by rachelsanghee

Best atmosphere. But the burgers?

Stuttgart is changing. At least, it’s starting to change. There are new shops, malls, restaurants popping up here and there while a department store and some other shops are either moving or closing. Change is good thing, I think, and for someone who has been answering “well, it depends,” whenever anyone would ask me “so how do you like Stuttgart,” this is exciting.

Hans Im Glück is one of those new burger joints that opened near Tuebingerstrasse, right next to the very busy Italian place Perbacco. I believe it opened last year and now it already has more locations around the city. They look and feel exactly the same, with very impressive tree decor, funky music and good cocktails. The burgers, however, could be better.

The menu is impressive and they have a lot of different types of toppings, including a vegetarian menu. But the thing is that the base is exactly the same and they just add in the toppings and call it a different burger. The problem with this is that first of all, the base itself isn’t the best and second of all, the toppings are not that impressive. You order a gorgonzola burger and you get a burger with a small, round helping of gorgonzola sauce. You order the BBQ burger and you get a hint of barbeque sauce with a sprinkle of fried onion chips.

So as long you pick your favorite toppings, you’ll have a not-so-bad burger but to be honest, something you can actually make yourself at home. The price tag isn’t that cheap either, which starts around 7 euros for a burger.

But there’s a but too. The cocktails are good, the atmosphere is very nice, the music not so loud but not so quiet, a good place for a date, families and or with friends. They also have four different types of dressings and sauces for the salad and fries, which is a big improvement from only ketchup and mayo.

Thank you for the information! We’ve been looking at going here, but are always hesitant of getting a German inspired burger or a frozen patty. The Meatery so far has our favorite….but I agree, it’s still something you could do at home with a grill.

I’ve never been to the Meatery! I’ll have to try sometime. My personal favorite burger place is Shraeglage. They have great burgers, great fries and different dips to choose from. (More than mayo and ketchup..) You get to choose your buns, type of fries/ salads and dips and the waiters are super friendly 🙂

As a vegetarian, I have to admit that I love their veggy burgers! Plus the fries 🙂 However, I agree on the price though. 4 Euros for a small plate of fries as a side order?! But again, as a vegetarian, Hans im Glück is definitely a win for Stuttgart. 🙂

The vegetarian menu is impressive, compared to other places 😀 But as for the ordinary burgers, I need a bit more for the price! Plus last time I was there someone pushed the tree decor and one came tumbling down! No one was hurt, but everyone was pretty rattled. So look out for the tree decor!
